But there could be so many right things in the world, and some of them even though they could make you happy, would always be second best.
For the past two months that I haven’t posted in here, a lot has already happened with life. Things that my younger self must have never thought of experiencing. I’m not going to talk about them in this post because I’m not yet emotionally ready to talk about those stuff. Instead, I’m going to talk about the quotation quoted above.
I got it from one of the fanfics I loved to read from a fanfic.net writer (whom I think is the best at doing what she does). And it’s the most quotable quote I encountered in the past months.
True enough, decisions shape our lives. I’m not a lame believer of fate and predestined coincidences so I am firm at standing up to whatever I decided to do. Decisions shape who we are. And that’s the best and worst thing about them. That’s the safe and dangerous thing about them.
More importantly, with the diversity of decisions we could take and are allowed to grab, the very act of executing any one of them might just seem taunting. There are decisions that could make us happy surely with less consequences. But there are decisions that can make us happier, even happiest, but their stakes are high and scary because we can only either win or lose, feel accomplished or regret. With these choices, there are no in-betweens.
In this life, some things are going to make us happy. And they are going to come with a little less pain. But sometimes, just sometimes, for a few of us, they will always be second best next to the things that we truly, direly love. And differentiating these two is going to be one of the hardest things one could ever experience.
